Lorianne Gentry of Maybe It’s You

Character Crush
Because Authors have crushes too!

1.  Does your character believe in love? Lorianne Gentry does believe in love. In fact, almost every man she meets she
envisions them as her knight in shining armor. She is forever searching for her
Prince Charming.
2.  What
is the most enduring trait about Lorianne?
Her vulnerability to her
friends. Or maddening? When Lorianne is upset the whole world knows it! Her
sobs are dramatic and loud, and if they are not, that is the time to worry.
3.  What
has been the biggest conflict in Lorianne’s life?
The largest conflict in
Lorianne’s life is her low self-esteem. Everyone knows a beautiful someone.
They present the picture of confidence, of having everything. But deep down
they sabotage themselves because they don’t believe they deserve what happiness
comes their way.
4.  What
is the one thing Lorianne wants most in the world and what will she do
to get it?
Her Prince Charming. The man that loves her despite her deepest
fears.
5.  What
makes Lorianne sexy?
Her lack of inhibition. She is a free spirit—on the
surface!
6.  Does Lorianne wish she were more like her best friend? Yes. In a lot of
ways, except that her friend is a brilliant scholarly geek, with crazy hair and
sturdy-nerdy glasses. But inside her best friend is confident in her skin,
unlike Lorianne.
7.  What
challenges did Lorianne have growing up?
Her paternal father died before
he learned she was conceived. Her mother was a drug addict who had trouble
making ends meet. She grew up on the streets, at times homeless. When her
mother passed away, Lorianne was sixteen. Her paternal grandmother spent years
searching for her mother, but it was only after her mother’s death she found
her. But because of Lorianne’s age, and volatile upbringing, the counselor
recommended the grandmother hold off telling Lorianne the truth until she
graduated. But the more time passed, the more afraid the grandmother feared her
granddaughter’s reaction.
8.  What
key childhood event occurred that changed the way Lorianne sees the
world?
When Lorianne was six, she overheard an argument between her mother and
her boyfriend, Clark. Then he left with no word to her. She felt abandoned and
just knew his leaving was her fault.
9.  Who
is Lorianne’s nemesis?
Lorianne’s worst nemesis is herself. However, as she
gains confidence, she realizes Ashton Turner’s father is a much worse detriment
than she could have imagined.
10.  Would Lorianne lick Jell-O shots off someone’s body? She is uninhibited. She definitely would.
I’m just surprised she didn’t.
11.  Use
the first three words that pop into your mind to describe Lorianne.
Insecure; Beautiful; Demanding.
12.  What
is Lorianne’s biggest vice?
Ah…sex.

13.  What
past event in Lorianne’s life has defined her the most?
Lorianne’s
mother’s drug addiction affected her in many ways. For one, she would never do drugs. There was an incident
where the drug dealer came by and her mother hid her in the closet—locked the
door. She heard him beat her mother up, and her mother didn’t let her out of
the closet until late the next day. She felt like her mother had forgotten her.
14.  What
is the worst romantic relationship Lorianne has ever had?
There were
really too many to count. (Not in this story, but it is a part of her character.
Those damned abandonment issues!)

 15.   What’s
the luckiest thing that ever happened to Lorianne?
Learning she has a
grandmother who is a freaking
millionaire.
